16/06/2008 EMBRAER RECEIVES DESIGN AWARD
Embraer’s Phenom jets family (Phenom 100 and Phenom 300) and Lineage 1000 executive jet recently won the IDEA/Brasil design award, which is the Brazilian version of the IDEA/USA Awards “ one of the most prestigious design prizes in the world.
We are very grateful for the IDEA/Brasil award and the recognition by the design industry,
said Henrique Langenegger, Embraer Vice President, Programs “ Executive Jets. Embraer’s
engineering and design philosophy reflects our vision of bringing innovative and distinctively
different products to the market.
This first edition of IDEA/Brasil had 18 categories, and Embraer competed in the
Transportation area, which included Automobiles “ Exterior and Interior; Boats and Aircraft “
Exterior and Interior; Motorcycles; Recreational Vehicles; Bicycles; Concepts; and Prototypes.
The judging was based on sustainability and design excellence, including aesthetics and harmony of form, aligned with innovation and benefits to users, customers, society, and the environment. With this prestigious award, Embraer was the manufacturer with the best performance, receiving a gold medal for each of its two entrants. IDEA/Brasil is one of the Nation’s main design prizes, for which 343 projects were entered in this edition.
The key design drivers of the Phenom 100 and Phenom 300 are premium comfort, outstanding performance and low operating costs. An oval-shaped fuselage cross-section, where a spacious
Phenom 100 Lineage 1000 interior cabin seamlessly flows into the cockpit, abounds with natural lighting from large windows.
Advanced avionics technology lessens pilot workload and enables single-pilot operation. By incorporating the latest airframe development, production and propulsion technologies, the clean-sheet design of the Phenom 100 and Phenom 300 results in environmentally friendly jets, which produce, respectively, 33% and 25% less carbon dioxide emissions than older aircraft.
The Phenom jets were developed by Embraer with such fully-digital design tools as CATIA V5, and their interiors created in a partnership with BMW DesignWorksUSA. The Lineage 1000 was designed for ultimate comfort, outstanding performance and low operating costs. Its interior design, created in a partnership with Priestman Goode, of the United Kingdom, offers luxurious comfort, convenience, and privacy, which are the priority of a spacious and stylish cabin outfitted with all the amenities for a premium travel experience. Advanced technologies, such as head-up displays and fly-by-wire flight controls, further enhance flight smoothness and safety. With an optimized propulsion system, engines produce even less emissions than their counterparts in other aircraft.
Moreover, the Phenom jets and the Lineage 1000 will exceed in their compliance with the latest International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Stage IV noise regulations. Furthermore, they will also meet the demands of the most noise restrictive airports in the world, such as London City, U.K., and Ronald Reagan Washington National, U.S.A., providing an environmentally friendly option for neighboring communities. Embraer has received other design awards for its executive jets in the recent past. The Phenom jets won the IF Awards, in Germany, for the best product and interior, in 2006 and 2007, respectively, and the Good Design Awards, in China, for the best design, in 2006. The Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 took Germany’s Red Dot Award for interior design, in 2008. In May 2008, the editors of U.S. magazine Robb Report chose the Phenom 100 as the Best of the Best Business Jet.
