Embraer has formally joined the Global Compact program developed by the United Nations (UN) for the purpose of mobilizing the international business community to adopt basic values for its business practices in the areas of human rights, labor relations, environmental protection, and anti-corruption.
In recent years, we have intensified our actions to guarantee the Company’s sustainable
growth and to encourage our customers and suppliers to do the same, stated Frederico
Fleury Curado, Embraer President and CEO. In all of our actions, we have followed the
principles of the Global Compact, the laws in effect, and our code of ethics. With this formal
step, our socioenvironmental commitment becomes more transparent.
The Global Compact (www.globalcompact.org) is a commitment taken up by companies in behalf of the sustainability of their businesses with a long-term vision and is based on ten basic principles: respect and protect human rights, not be complicit in human rights abuses, uphold the freedom of association at work and right to collective bargaining, abolish all forced labor, as well as child labor, eliminate discrimination in the work place, support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges, promote greater environmental responsibility, encourage environmentally friendly technologies, and work against corruption in all its forms.
Listed on the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE) of the São Paulo Stock Exchange
(Bovespa), Embraer has developed several initiatives focusing on the sustainability of its business, in recent years, such as ISO 14001 (International Standards Organization specification for environmental management) and OSHAS 18001 (Occupational Health and
Safety Advisory Service) certifications, substituting its power source, social projects, and carbon neutralization, and increased environmental-industrial performance. In addition, the
Company will expand the contents of its Social Report in 2008 to include environmental aspects, describing its actions and the results obtained in promoting sustainability.
By joining the Global Compact, and recently signing the ATAG (Air Transport Action Group)
Summit Declaration, Embraer has reinforced its commitment to transparency with its employees, customers, shareholders, communities, financial institutions, and governments.
