RUAG MARKS 5 YEARS OF EASA DESIGN ORGANISATION APPROVAL

RUAG Aviation is currently celebrating 5 years as an approved European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part 21J Design Organisation (DOA). The aircraft services provider and life cycle support specialist manages full in-house engineering capabilities. According to DOA terms, RUAG Aviation is authorised to classify changes as major and minor, develop major changes, major repairs and supplemental type certificates (STC), and develop and approve minor modifications and minor repairs. The company has also achieved new Terms of Approval with second scope expansion for operational suitability data, as confirmed fourth quarter last year.

“Our customers’ creative ideas are our priority. These can include completely new aircraft interior comfort solutions, or a cockpit upgrade. They may also choose to streamline in-flight entertainment (IFE) systems or to enhance existing avionics with proven packages. This is all part of how we support our customers,” explains Bas Gouverneur, General Manager Engineering, RUAG Aviation. “Customers rely on RUAG Aviation to improve their flight experience as well as the performance and operations of their aircraft. We are pleased to have confirmed our DOA certification with EASA, year after year, and are keen to serve our customers with the full spectrum of engineering and DOA capabilities,” states Bas Gouverneur.

In fact, RUAG Aviation maintains complete in-house competency for project management support. The engineering team enables civil aviation customers to realise their ideas, assessing the viability of a proposal, and then advancing it from initial requirement definition, through design, manufacturing, integration, and verification, to certification. “DOA approval allows our customers to benefit from RUAG Aviation’s vast engineering project management experience, supported by the entire organisation and its knowledge base, as well as supply chain services and flight testing,” continues Bas Gouverneur.

RUAG Aviation engineering services provides prompt response to a full spectrum of improvement and upgrade proposals from both customers and in-house sales and technical teams. “By virtue of our EASA DOA certification, RUAG Aviation proves itself to be an engaged, professional partner applying proven standards, processes and verification techniques in the interest of innovation, improved performance and cost-effective benefits,” emphasises Lukas Billeter, Vice President Technology, RUAG Aviation.

EASA Part 21J DOA organisations comply with exacting EASA regulations and are thoroughly audited on a regular basis. “Our mission is to provide creative, state-of-the-art solutions which fit within the regulatory framework set by EASA,” adds Bas Gouverneur. EASA guidelines and airworthiness standards also require engineering organisations to continuously review, edit and submit the Design Organisation Handbook.
